SAP SE Company and The Industrial Internet Consortium

SAP SE (Societas Europaea) is a European multinational software company. The company is the world’s largest enterprise application software company and the fourth largest independent software supplier.

The Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) is a Global Non-Profit Partnership of Industry, Government and Academy. The IIC was formed to accelerate the development, adoption and wide-spread use of interconnected machines and devices and intelligent analytics. You can find more.

As a background, the industry is in their fourth wave in the Industrial Revolution.

SAP has joined the IIC, which aims at accelerating and promoting the business use of the Internet of Things (IoT) as part of a SAP initiative called the Industry 4.0. The announcement was made at Mobile World Congress (MWC), held March 2-5 in Barcelona.

SAP, which has been a major proponent of Industry 4.0, will work with 140 other IIC members to deliver use cases, test beds, reference architectures and frameworks, and security for IoT applications.

SAP has been a strong supporter of the Industry 4.0 in Europe and supports the importance of industry-wide, international standards for easier interoperability for customers. The European company will join the group leading the bid for accelerated adoption of IoT for business and may gain technological advantages from the collaborative movement.

 SAP already has a presence in the IoT market and offers a number of solutions for businesses. This includes Predictive Maintenance and Service solution, Connected Logistics software and Manufacturing Execution application.

A key component will be the influence that Industrial Internet Consortium will bring to various IoT standards activities and solutions for driving interoperability of the growing involvement of virtually every major open standards organization. Industrial Internet Consortium is also working closely with the German Industry 4.0 initiative to bring global input and help ensure that Industry 4.0 leverages the work of Industrial Internet Consortium in its solutions for computerization of the manufacturing industry.
